RIP John. Great servant to the club and formed a great ..... Partnership with Venables which I was privileged to see.
He worked tirelessly particularly in his youth which gave Terry the time to orchestrate the game as a playmaker/on pitch manager.

Unsung hero Hollins - RIP !!! ..... Fantastic achievement for the club. A true gent and he was Chelsea till the end i feel. Legend !!!!!!

Ticinoblue
John Hollins a link to a more innocent past. When I was a student I wanted to ..... interview Pat Nevin for London Student magazine so I naively just rang the club's main number and asked how I could arrange it. To my surprise they put me through to John Hollins manager at the time and he promised very politely to pass on the message. Again to my surprise Pat rang me the next day. Different times. JH was a gentleman.

Tyrone Shoelaces ★
RIP Johnny H. Great player for us. ..... I will always remember him for that rather than his managerial spell at SB.

FRANKLY MR SHANKLY
Nice story. RIP John Hollins. Can you try ringing the club to ask Lukaku what his plans are ? .

bumstead
Be nice if we had someone who could do that now ..... RIP Johnny Hollins

Ceteris Paribus
Terrible news about John. His daughter ..... is a presenter on BBC London news.

I had the pleasure not only to watch John play in the 1970's but to meet him and actually sat with him and Ken Bates when he was Manager and decided to watch from the Chelsea Director's box away at Swindon when we lost 4 nil in the ZDS!

We exchanged letters which I still have somewhere.

A true Gent off the pitch and a lovely man who will be very much missed. RIP John. A Chelsea legend.

Romans Soldier
Yes John definitely one of the "polite gentlemen" who played for us. RIP..

Soames
John Hollins he was one of my idols growing up ..... If I remember correctly he used to take our pens
Would get into my heavenly eleven of our ex players who have passed away...

Helen kellers eyes
Would it be ok to say that John Hollins would have coped without any trouble with the ..... requirement for manic high pressing in today's game.
What an effort he put into every game and was probably the reason why he couldn't make it to the top as a manager having to suffer work shy chancers.

Soames
Love it. If ever you wrote to him he would always write back ..... directly to you.

To be fair a few did that including Bates Hutchinson Hoddle etc.

Romans Soldier
He always put in a shift. He had a fantastic engine..

Romans Soldier
RIP John Hollins. He used to hand out end of season medals at my junior team ..... when I was a kid in the 80's. As mentioned here many times a true gentleman.

Bolton81
R.I.P. 939 games.744 being league games. ..... I little-known facts often overlooked is he has played more League games in the top division than any other footballer ever apart from Peter Shilton.714 . . A true legend

papastour
John Hollins was our POY in both 69-70 and 70-71 when ..... there were so many other contenders. In those days it was voted by old Supporters Club members every two months throughout a season to ensure that the most consistent player got it.
A couple of years ago on the no 11 bus back after a game along the King's Road when John as usual was chatting away to anyone about everything football I mentioned this to the group around him - and was gratified to see how pleased he was for the memory to be shared.
What a player and what a man. RIP John

MHU Blue
wasn't it after that Swindon game that John joked that he'd ..... heard the 'Hollins Out' chant from both sets of fans that night...

MHU Blue
True Club Legend. Great player. Never appeared to stop running..

fan54
RIP Hollins .

CFC 93
Fantastic player. Ahead of his time. RIP John and thanks for the memories..

TN Dave
Absolute gentleman and top player .

Backinthedhss
Indeed. I wonder what John in his prime would be worth in the current market..

TN Dave
I seem to remember Hollins scoring goal of the season against the gooners. ..... Half volley edge of box into top corner think it was an early season game unless I am mistaken

Alec Busheel
RIP Johnny Hollins ..... I loved him as a player.

Moonknight
He also scored a beauty away at Man U in the league cup (I think). Unfortunately Best ..... also scored a brilliant goal and we eventually lost a fantastic game.

TN Dave
Rip mr John hollins met him once at the bridge lovely guy and loved Chelsea .

Chelseaboy82
Sad to hear about John Hollins. Always thought of him as Mr Chelsea. As a player ..... So reliable.
Probably took him for granted to an extent.
RIP

mrtamblingman
Yes he scored some spectacular goals in his time. As well as keeping up the incredible work ..... rate! A top player.

TN Dave

V R Lee
Oh dear RIP John. Sad news about one of own..

R.I.P. John Hollins an all time great. .....

Is John Hollins the first Chelsea Player to both win trophies as a player and manager? ..... Yes I do count The Full Members Cup as a trophy

Pocharoundtheclock
RIP Johnnie Hollins.

ISHOTTOMMYLANGLEY
When Johnnie Hollins meets Brian Moore upstairs I hope they discuss "that" goal! ..... RIP a truly great Chelsea Legend.

Somebody had better tell Todd who he was.

KermitTheFrog ★
Just heard the news about John Hollins. I knew him for a while when I was at BBC Wales ..... I rang him up when he was manager of Swansea and asked him if he would like to come on a show I produced and choose his five favourite records as well as talk about his career. He was great about it and drove to Cardiff... signed some programmes... told loads of stories and afterwards left me two tickets on the gate for Swansea v Brighton. A laid back friendly man who gets overlooked for Osgood Cooke and Hudson etc when him and Webb were the real heroes... true professionals in a Chelsea era that lacked that virtue at times. Really shocked and saddened. See you later John

John Phillips
Nice tribute. Well done.Rip John Hollins. .

Soames
Hollins and Chopper were just 18 and 19 ..... Respectively when they were almost ever presents in Docs 64/65 team one of the best loved Chelsea teams ever. As Brighton proved with Caicedo and Ferguson if theyre good enough theyre old enough. Stop this loan nonsense and give youth its head.

gnome of zurich
RIP John Hollins - an ever present.. ..... .. I got to see growing up and a great Chelsea stalwart. What a shot on him too. As a 9yr old that impressed me!

Blue on Wheels ★
RIP Mr Hollins. Another childhood hero gone :-( .

Following on from A Bridge of Dreams post below reference John Hollins ..... he was opening a sports shop with Peter Bonetti somewhere in London in the late 60s early 70s and my brother and I went along I was about six or seven they were both my hero's growing up we queued up to get their autographs and John Hollins stopped and asked me a few questions about myself I think he could see I was star struck - lovely man and so sad to hear he had passed away RIP John - I have always remembered that moment and impressed that he took time out to speak to a snotty nosed scruffy kid

Middle of the Shed
Went to Pat Nevin book launch in Chiswick last night Felt very sad listening ..... to him talking about John Hollins. Was a good evening

The book is well worth a read

Bosgood ★
Reflecting on John Hollins I saw his only England appearance v Spain at Wembley in 1967. It ..... was just after we lost the Cup Final. Did anyone else on here go? I was desperately disappointed not to have got a ticket for the Cup Final (I was 11 and not very aware of the realities of ticket availability in those days) so my father got us tickets for the Spain game as a consolation. Both Hollins and the Cat played and both had very good games in a 2-0 win. I thought at the time that with Nobby Stiles reaching the end of his international career John Hollins was likely to be a fixture in the England team for years to come. But Sir Alf had other ideas and Alan Mullery got the gig and Holly didn't even make the final 1970 World Cup squad despite having a superb season for Chelsea. Odd.

RIP John Hollins. Lovely player. Got his autograph in '65. Great servant to the club. .
