CHAT MESSAGES

I found him on Facebook and unfortunately it seems as if he's died.. There's a post from I think his daughter dated 11th February.

"cannot even believe i am having to write this post - unfortunately my dad Ray passed away yesterday morning. i am absolutely devastated and this has come and such a huge shock to my family and I. Everyone who knew my dad loved him and knows he had such a great sense of humour and was still always cracking jokes even when he has been in pain. He was the kindest most generous and loving person i have ever met and i feel so privileged to have been blessed with him as my father. He has always been there for me and i honestly dont know what i am going to do without him. My best friend and hero. RIP Ray 1964-2020" Ray Clune"

In The True Blue Blood
The Bishop of Sligo (chatter ) RIP. In a modern cyber connected age where we build relationships over social media with out every actually meeting people in the real form its strange how we say we know someone or we know a little about some one. We define posters by their comments their wit and their involvement on this public forum.

Chelsea Chat is one of the longest if not the longest club chat pages in existence starting some way back in the 1990's when cyber land was just forming up. " Bish" as many affectionally knew him was like one of those bricks in the shed wall and to make well over 18 000 posts says he's made some lasting impression over the years. One would check in to see what happening or any news of the day and likely more or less your'd find something from "Bish" on the wall bit like have a morning cuppa you or the set break at 11am in the office you knew it would be there almost everyday just like "Bish".

So how do you pay tribute to a fella who in reality you know just a tiny bit about whilst his family friends and loved ones have lost a giant of a person in their lives?.... Well "Bish" was worth a read worth clicking on his comments for someone who had been through monumental aggravation and life dealt him some real curve balls his positivity and optimism to keep getting up time and time again after what would have floored most of us took some balls of courage each time his wit cheeky comments and straight talking gave a touch of reality to life and what is important.

Its obvious he cared and loved Chelsea some of his exchanges on here would have made more than a mild titter to a full on belly laugh he was popular without being an attention seeker he was just "Bish" someone that we all knew as part of this community.

I shall miss his posts that strong character of taking on life head on and all it throws at us then he just shrugs off the pony and trap and carrys on with the topics of the day.

The phrase " Keep Calm and Carry On" was Bish all over.... some great stuff over the years..... where ever you are now "Bish" just keep on being just the same. Rest in peace fella

Voltaire returns
Hey volt. Sad news indeed but well put. Sums that guy up perfectly.. Like most on here I'm gonna miss his posts.

" stumpy's giving me trouble today" or " got an appointment finally for with the eye clinic"
He had the lot and still laughed about it...
RIP Bish. Keep calm and carry on.

Your lengthy posts are always something I take time to read.. Really lovely words mate was just such awful news about Bish. People had noticed his absence on here (before Freo's post).

If he had this effect on here with so many people who probably never met him or knew him that well then I can only imagine the impact he had on those closest to him - like family and friends. Thoughts are with them right now as he will have left a huge hole in their lives. But I'm sure it's a hole that overtime will be filled with all the great memories he will have left them with over the years.

RIP Bish.

BlueRattled
Well.... This is quite disrepectful to one of the best DCMs to ever grace the sport and I hope it sheds more light on why players would think solely of themselves as a fan's loyalty to one player is only as consistent as the wind.

In as much as a PSG exists he can go for more though. However I'd rather include him in a deal (if the club ever considers his sale) for another worldie in order to evade the temptation of putting a price on him - his passion hardwork and loyalty is arguably 2nd to none.

What are the options? Why?

PSG (for Mbappe) - cos he's Parisian and he may relish the chance to go back home + he'd be paid well most likely.

Inter Milan (for Martinez) - cos Italy's the best place to retire for a footballer and I don't think Conte would turn him down.

All these are of course dependent on the other player's willingness to come here and us securing a UCL spot.

West End Blue

Like many I only knew him from here and had no real insight about all of his medical. issues - but we knew enough about his struggles and to be able to use the way he dealt with them and kept his sense of humour through an obvious uphill battle for many years. RIP Bish quality chatter; always so sad - but uplifting to see one of our own remembered. So fondly.
He never let life get him too down despite some trying times; and he constantly shared - which is of massive importance to those who feel less able to.

He'll be a big miss to this place and much more importantly to his family and friends.

My dream remains that one day when the new Bridge is built CFC will ask for names of important fans through the years to inscribe on a few bricks on the new shed wall; Bish and Triz and all those we've lost can stand pride of place forever part of the club.

★lexcoates13

Regarding Bish. It was summed up perfectly by someone earlier.. In a cyber world where we hardly ever meet in person you strangely get to "know" some people on here. It feels like a family and people find solace in coming on here.
He was a legend on here and will be missed.
Also it's never known who is on their own or is struggling and just come on here for some kind of contact or conversation.

If you can't be anything be kind.

Yes that worked here your post sums most of us up ODJ those of us who hadn't met him. yet somehow knew him.

Also he looked pretty much how I pictured him from his posts which isn't always the case when you meet someone from here.

The Bishop of Sligo - a true LEGEND. I do not post much but a regular lurker since 2008. Always enjoyed the posts from The Bish a true CC legend. Be it his culinary adventures or his latest encounter with an ailment or his search for a new home - he managed to take us along in his journey through all his posts.

He seemed to be one person who never gave up and accepted everything with a twist of humour and was never afraid to share. This made many of us like me feel that we know him even without meeting him or having much interaction with him.

The fact that so many of us is heartbroken and posting messages for him is a testament in itself to the inspiring legacy he has left behind. Goodbye 'The Bish' and hope we can channel at least fraction of the same strength and humour that you have always shown. Rest in Peace in the Blue Sky!

Life Death and Chelsea Chat.... Ive been using this forum for the best part of 20 years now (how I wish I couldve said 23) and in that time Ive come into contact with countless fellow chatters. Some just to acknowledge in a pub before a game others to buy or sell tickets from and a lot who have become proper friends in real life. Bish fell into another category those that Ive never met but have interacted with on this site and feel that I know. Actually Bish and I did sort of meet about 14 or 15 years ago at an away game but it wasnt until after the game that the young lady I was with said "oh by the way that chap at half time was The Bishop of Sligo".

But whether weve met others or just chatted on here its always a shock and feels deeply personal when we lose somebody. That was especially the case with Bish because hed been on here so long and shared his good and bad moments with us all. Something you only do if you think you are among friends you can trust and hopefully thats how he felt about the rest of us.

We are shocked and upset but for his family it will be complete devastation. I hope in the future they can look back and smile at their personal memories of him as we will look back and smile at our cyber memories.

I wont dwell on his many trials and tribulations health wise we all knew of them and he shared in our jokes about them. If hes still reading this forum somewhere Im sure hes thinking "come on then whos gonna be the first to be brave enough to crack a joke this time?" You know itll happen and you know hed have laughed.

Those of us working class types who grew up with the Daily Mirror on the kitchen table will remember the strip cartoon The Perishers and if you remember them youll probably also recall Dirty McSquirty the dirtiest boy in town who always had a cloud of flies buzzing round his head. Dirty had a cousin an unseen character known as Cousin Worsoff the proverbial "person who is always worse off than you". That was our Bish.

Ive no idea if anybody from here will be at the funeral but being Bish Im sure the hearse will run over a black cat as it enters the crematorium and the pallbearers will slip and drop the coffin. Hed laugh at that too.

Times like this make us all more aware of our own mortality especially those of us with a lot more years and miles on the clock than Bish had. Perhaps today just for one day we could all be a little bit nicer to and more tolerant to each other.

RIP Bish
